About Hadley (updated April 6th)

January 19th

Hadley was due December 22, but I had to be induced December 3rd at my weekly doctor appointment because my doctor was worried about preeclampsia. Hadley Noelle Haislip was born December 4th at 4:56am in The Woodlands, TX. She weighed 6lbs 13oz and was 19 1/2 inches long. The first week she had jaundice and dropped down to 6lbs 1 oz. At her two week appointment she had surpassed her birth weight and was up to 7lbs 1.8oz! She was 20 1/2 inches long. We weighed her again at 4 weeks and she was around 9 lbs! At 6 1/2 weeks she is able to hold her head up and she scoots when we lay her on her tummy! She LOVES bathtime (its mine and Jacob’s favorite time too!) and this past week has started sleeping for 5-6 hour stretches at night (yay for mommy!). She does have colic, so she cries every night from about 8 until 12. But even that seems to be getting better. She is an awesome baby! She loves to smile and “talk” to us. She is very curious about what is going on around her and recognizes my and Jacob’s voices.

Our sweet baby has been sick all week. This past weekend, she was really congested and was having a lot of trouble breathing through her little nose. She and I sat in the bathroom for an hour on Sunday with the shower and humidifier going to try and break up some of that junk. She listened to me read 5 chapters of Charlotte’s Web.  :o)   We went to the Doctor on Monday and figured out she just has a little cold.  I guess she probably picked up something when we were there (we havent really been anywhere else) because she started throwing up on Tuesday. She projectile vomited all over me and then looked up at me and smiled like, “oh, I feel better now!” She was fine but it scared the tar out of me!!! She has had a low grade fever since then (99.4-99.8) Wednesday she was pretty sleepy so we didnt do a whole lot, and yesterday she threw up two more times. Back to the doctor. The Pediatrician said she couldnt tell there was anything wrong with her tummy (good news!) and that it seemed she probably just had a little stomach virus. She said it was uncommon for a baby that young and that is breastfed to be sick so we are keeping an eye on her and hoping it doesnt turn into something more. I think she is going to start faking being sick soon, she has been getting lots of cuddles and kisses from her momma. We go back to the doctor on Monday for her 2 month shots. Eek!

We went in for Hadley’s two month check up today. Sweet baby is 22 3/4 inches long, 11 lbs 2 oz and her big ‘ol noggin is 15 3/4 inches. Each of these puts her in the 75 percentile for her age. I’m pretty sure she is going to be way bigger than I am! She also had her shots today, they gave her the first vaccine in a liquid in her mouth and she looked at me like, “um, Mom, are you sure this is supposed to be happening?” Then they gave her three shots in her tiny legs. The first one she looked at me like, “what was that?!?!” The second one she opened her mouth and this noise came out like, “What the HECK was that?!?!” and the third one she let out a big cry. 😦 It hurt me just to watch, but its better than her getting some horrible disease. We got home and I gave her some baby Tylenol to help with the aches and pains of it and she made this face and spit half of it back out at me! Then she wanted to suck on the dropper. The Pediatrician said that she is a happy, healthy baby and we are doing all the right things, so we’ll keep on doing what we are doing. This morning when we woke up (at 5, not at 9) I went and changed her diaper, and she kept cooing and smiling and I was sure that today was going to be the day of her first laugh, but now that she has had her shots and she is feeling kind of crummy, I dont think it will be. She still has huge blue eyes, and her hair is getting darker. I assume it will be light brown. I can tell its getting longer, but I dont see a haircut in her future for quite some time.

Ladybug went in for her 4 month check up and she was 25 1/4 inches long which put her in the 75-90% she weighed 14lbs 4oz which put her in the 50-75% and her big noggin was 16 1/2 inches around which put her in the 75% for that! We have a huge baby! She got her second booster shots and again, took it like a champ. I can tell she is super sore now though. Poor baby. The pediatrician was impressed that she is still exclusively breastfed and encouraged me to try and make it a year! I dont think that will happen, but we are shooting for 6 months at least! As big as she is getting, I dont know though… Everywhere we go, everyone tells me how pretty she is and what a good baby she is! Its starting to make Jacob and I talk about having another one (in a couple years!!!) but we still arent sure if we just lucked out with Hadley! Hadley has a new best friend; Aslan. These two crack me up. We had to get Aslan groomed today because Hadley kept pulling out huge chunks of fur. Poor Aslan just took it. Hadley’s eyes are starting to turn brown. They are a really pretty greenish color right now. Her hair is a lot longer but it is still a light brownish color. Either way, I agree with everyone else. She is a beautiful and good baby!
